Attendance Reporting
We are seeing a notable decrease in the response from parents/carers with pupil absences. It is vitally important that parents report ALL absences to the school office every morning by 9am. This is particularly important for safeguarding purposes and fire regulations. Groupcall messages will continue to be sent twice a day to parents who we have not had a response from to find out why their young person is not in school.

Information about the Trust and the purpose of it is detailed below:-
The Thomas Maconochie KHS Trust was established in 2003 by Mr Thomas Maconochie, a former pupil of the school. The trust is a recognised Charity, Scottish Charity No: SCO34775.

- pupils taking part in school activities and excursions where, for any reason, lack of finance is a barrier to participation
- the start up of new extra-curricular activities, e.g. school shows, drama, etc.
- ongoing running costs for extra-curricular activities, e.g. sport, music and drama
- extra activities offered in school for classes, groups or year groups, e.g. conferences, education for work initiatives, visits
- individual pupil participation in courses and activities, e.g. Gap Year
All groups / individuals who have received funding at a previous meeting should submit a report (with photographs if possible) indicating how the money was spent and the experience gained from taking part in the activity.
Deadline for Bids and Feedback Reports is Friday 28th April 2023. Completed Application Forms should be returned to the School Office or alternatively, they can be e-mailed to KelsoHS@scotborders.gov.uk by the same date.
Border Safeguard Ltd – Class Presentation
Mr Martin’s Engineering Science classes were given an insight into careers in the Electronic Security and Fire Detection industry this week by Alan Wheelans from Border Safeguard Ltd together with a further two team members from the Company.
Alan spoke about how systems work including a demonstration of the systems and sensors that they use and the theoretics of how things work. This presentation complimented the work that they had been covering in class recently. Alan, Baz and Maty also spoke about careers in the industry and the apprenticeships available and entry to these. It was a hugely enjoyable and informative talk. Thank you to Alan, John and Matthew from Border Safeguard Ltd for their input and time. #pridekhs
Happy Faces in Home Economics
These happy faces certainly made us smile and we hope that they make you smile too. S1 Home Economics classes have been learning about the Hospitality industry. Part of their studies involved learning about that great British tradition of Afternoon Tea. They then applied their learning and culinary skills to make either fruit or plain scones. We think their creations look absolutely delicious! Thank you to Miss Armstrong for the fabulous photos.#pridekhs
Rotary Young Technologist Competition
Last week two teams from Kelso HS participated in the Rotary Young Technologist Competition, an Engineering event held at Eyemouth when they had to compete in teams of four against representatives from other Borders Schools. The challenge this year was to design and build a coin sorter. Both teams acquitted themselves really well and were unlucky in that their projects just didn’t quite work as expected at the final testing.
Our Intermediate team of Henry Aitchison, Aidan Richardson, Douglas Redpath and Arran Gibb finished in fourth position, just missing the third podium spot by one point, whilst the Junior team of Lucy Gordon, Jaryn Johnstone, Jacob Harradine and Sam Nowakowski finished in third position, again just missing out on second spot just by the one point.
All pupils were a credit to Kelso High School and had a very worthwhile day exploring Engineering and developing their skills in this area. Many thanks to Mr Martin for organising and for providing the report and the photographs. #pridekhs
Hockey Success
Absolutely superb! KHS Hockey are celebrating again after our fantastic S3 team followed the example set by our Seniors last week and won the South Schools Trophy at the S3 Tournament. This is a fantastic achievement. Well done to all involved and a huge thank you to former pupil and Coach Emma Mack who has made a superb job of developing this talented group. #pridekhs
Hockey Success Continues…
We are delighted to announce that our S1 and S2 mixed Hockey Teams also triumphed in Saturday’s S1 and S2 South Schools Tournament held at Earlston High School. Again our grateful thanks to all supporters and to Coach Liv Ferguson for her sustained dedication and commitment to our S2 Team and to S1 Coaches: Miss Allan, Liv Ferguson and David Ferguson (KHS Director of Hockey) for their sustained dedication and commitment to our S1 Team. Well done to all involved. We are a very proud school! #pridekhs
Well done Murray and Jack!
Well done! Huge congratulations to Jack Utterson and Murray Jackson in S4 who were selected to play for the Borders and East Lothian U16s at Stirling on Sunday afternoon. Both Jack and Murray regularly play for Kelso RFC U16s and KHS Rugby. To step up from club and school level to play at regional level is an achievement to be proud of – and we are certainly very proud of them both! #pridekhs
Equestrian Success…
Well done to Rachel Elliot (S1) and Emma Neill (S3) who completed last Sunday at Howe. It was a great start to the season for both with Rachel jumping two lovely double clears to achieve 4th position in the 55cm and 10th position in the 75cm.
Well done to Emma too, who jumped a good double clear in the 85cm to be just out the placings and also performed well in the prelim dressage test. #pridekhs
