SOCIAL SUBJECTS
Pupils in the Social Subjects faculty are given the opportunity to learn about their place in the world through History, Modern Studies and Geography teaching of key knowledge and skills.
Topics such as the Making of Scotland, Political Participation and Where are we in the world kick start pupils learning in S1 and continue through on to deeper learning in senior phase courses – National 4/5, Highers and Advanced Highers – in all subjects as well as Higher Politics. As well as range of learning activities in the classroom, pupils are given the opportunity to take part in relevant learning experiences outside the classroom such as visits to Parliament and geography field trips.
The Social Subjects Faculty Aims:
- Developing positive pupil/teacher relationships.
- Developing pupils’ interest in and enjoyment of History, Geography and political and social issues.
- To establish knowledge and skills useful out with the school environment and applicable to everyday life.
- To support and nurture the development of the pupils and staff within the department.
