Date for your Diary

Tuesday 6th August 2024 – SQA Results Day. Key members of staff will be in school to support our senior pupils as required.
Wednesday 14th August 2024 – school resumes for our young people.

Staffing

All at Kelso High School would like to wish Fiona Bryson, our Business Manager, a long and happy retirement as she leaves us today after 26 years’ service.  She has been a valuable member of staff, who has supported many Senior Management Teams over the last two decades.

Best Wishes to Sarah Helery, our teacher of English, who is finishing with us tomorrow to take up a new post in Southampton.

S6 Prom

It was wonderful to catch up with our S6 Leavers at the Prom last Friday night at Ednam House. They looked stunning in their outfits. Following a three-course meal, everyone had fun mixing and dancing the night away. We hope that they will all continue to keep in touch with us and let us know how they are getting on in life and, as former pupils, come back and inspire others at the school telling us about their successes.

End of Term

It has been a busy final week:

House Assemblies: An opportunity to celebrate success along with some fun interactive competitions.  Well done to Kale House for winning the House Championship.

Whole School Walk:  Although slightly damp at times, our young people and staff enjoyed the fresh air and scenery as we walked from the school around Floors Castle and back.  Thank you to the Duke of Roxburgh for granting us permission.

Tradition School Ceilidh: Our last whole school event.  Our young people and staff enjoyed time together, within our school playground, to enjoy some traditional Scottish dances.

KHS Golf Championship

On Monday 24 June, the first Kelso High School Golf Championship was held at Kelso Golf Course. The competition featured young people from S2 through to S5, all competing for the Kelso High School Handicap golf trophy and the chance to become Kelso High School’s champion golfer of 2024.

The competition couldn’t have happened without the support of Kelso Golf Course. Special thanks to Ian Ford and Ken Lindsay who helped organise and kept everything running smoothly and Kevin Hush for his help on the day and for generously donating prizes. Thanks also to Live Borders staff, lead by Chris Fraser who generated the interest in the event, managed entries, acted as starter and along with Murray and Euan, was a great support on the day keeping things moving on the course. The competition started with a draw including 5 pairs, teeing off between 10.00 am and 10.30 am. Strong performances were seen from all participants despite the baking heat. Some amazing shots and putting were on display.

Results

There was a “Nearest the Pin” competition on the 15th green which for a long time remained uncontested. Nobody hit the green with their tee shot until the very last player to approach. A fantastic shot from Jacob Gray saw his ball land 11 m 37 cm from the hole and saw him win that competition. Well done to Jacob.

The KHS Handicap competition was won by Daniel Roxburgh who had a great round. Although not everyone had a golf handicap, every player was given a temporary one to allow them to compete for this trophy. Playing off an official handicap of 27, Daniel carded an 89 to win with a nett score of 62.

Everybody also competed for the scratch prize. Evan Cessford played an amazing game all day, consistently playing top quality shots. His final score of 79 saw him crowned as the champion golfer of 2024.

Overall, they had a great day. The weather was excellent as we played under full sun with a slight cooling breeze. The tournament was marked by the excellent sportsmanship displayed by all.
