The school session ended in celebratory style with a music concert and ceilidh - a big well done to all those who took part!  The school office remains open throughout the holidays for enquiries and senior staff will be available to assist with enquiries when SQA results are published on Tuesday 8th August 2017.  The new session begins for all pupils on Tuesday 15th August 2017.  In the meantime we wish all our learners and their families a happy holiday.

Sports Leadership Day at Cheviot Youth

Calling all Sports Leaders!!

We want you to start back at your KHS Sports Leadership course with a bang.  So Cheviot Youth have designed and planned in partnership with Glasgow’s Metro Outdoors a great Sports Leadership Day on Thursday 11th August.

Please see attached below information and booking form for the above event.

Athletics at Selkirk Games

Well done to Ben Rutherford (S3) who also took part in this day, running in the 800m final and coming in 4th.  This was a great achievement as it was only his 2nd ever competitive race and he ran a personal best!

Equestrian Update

Duncan McFadyen (S6) had a very successful first day at the Royal Highland Show last week.  He rode O’Malleys Mermaid owned by Deni Harper Adams from Worcester to victory in a very competitive class.  The win came in the Balcormo Stud Potential Sports Horse Under Saddle for 4 year olds.  This class involves firstly all the competitors parading in the ring in front of a packed and enthusiastic audience.  They then each went in individually and jumped a round of 95cm - 1m showjumps.  The top 7 combinations were then invited back into the ring where they were ridden very capably by ride judge Pippa Allen and assessed for conformation by Olympic rider Tim Stockdale.

All 3 judges were very impressed by the standard of young horses forward for the class. These horses and riders are our potential stars of the future.
Duncan and O’Malleys Mermaid then went on to stand Reserve Champion to the 5 year old winner owned and ridden by Graham Babes.

O'Malleys Mermaid only arrived in the Borders less than 6 weeks ago - backed but never having seen a pole at that time.  She is a very quick learner and with advice from trainers Andrew Hamilton (showjumping) and Claire Botterrell (dressage) she came on very quickly.

Duncan is currently in S5 at KHS, he is also undertaking Work Placed Learning at the Duke Of Roxburgh’s Floors Stud.  He would eventually like a career training and bringing on young horses for the competition market.
