The next meeting of the Thomas Maconochie Trust will take place on Thursday 24th May 2018 and bids are invited.  Application forms can be collected from the School Office and must be returned no later than Friday 4th May 2018.

Information about the Trust and the purpose of it is detailed below:-

The Thomas Maconochie KHS Trust was established in 2003 by Mr Thomas Maconochie, a former pupil of the school.  The trust is a recognised Charity, Scottish Charity No : SCO34775.

The purposes of the Trust are "to advance the education of children at school in Kelso and its environment in such a way as are over and above the statutory requirement of the relevant Education Authority."

In practice, this means that this Fund may choose to support educational activities carried out by Kelso High School pupils which are not directly funded by legal requirement by the Education Authority, namely Scottish Borders Council.  This may include grants to support :-

  • pupil participation in business and enterprise related activities
  • pupils taking part in school activities and excursions where, for any reason, lack of finance is a barrier to participation
  • the start up of new extra-curricular activities, eg. school shows, drama, etc
  • ongoing running costs for extra-curricular activities, eg. sport, music and drama
  • extra activities offered in school for classes, groups or year groups, eg. conferences, education for work initiatives, visits
  • individual pupil participation in courses and activities, eg. Gap Years

Keep Kelso / KHS Tidy!

Pupils are reminded to respect both their school and their community and ensure that they use rubbish bins provided around school and the town to dispose of any litter.  If anyone has any suggestions on how we can promote this to stop littering please contact KHS at [email protected].

S1 Rugby

Kelso S1 rugby team had the great honour to be asked to put a 7’s team together to play at “The Borders Festival of Rugby” at the annual Hawick 7’s.  The team selected to play were Chad Patterson, Ben Stewart, Andrew Smail, Angus Utterson, Aaron Ford, Connor Gibb, Harry Grant, Archie Barbour and Fraser Murray.  As Ross (S1 coach) was otherwise engaged - playing for Kelso 1st in the BT Cup Final at Lasswade, Sarah Barbour volunteered to help out but unfortunately circumstances changed and Sarah was unable.  So 3rd time lucky - their Mini Cougars coach Nigel Murray stepped in and coached the boys.  In addition, what a fantastic job he did.  The boys won all their games and after a convincing win over Peebles in the semi final.  They then went on to play Gala in the final.  They played their hearts out but they were beaten by a very strong team.  The boys should be very proud of themselves for doing so well in their last S1 game.  Well done boys, the future looks good for S2.
