Weekly Update 27/01/17

S4/5/6 Prelim Exams

Prelim exams for our S4, S5 and S6 pupils have now started and will run until Thursday 9th February.  General study leave will run from Thursday 26th January until Friday 3rd February and during this period pupils need attend school only to sit their examinations.  Although students are welcome to come into school to study or see individual teachers however they must sign in at the School Office and always wear full school uniform.

There will be No study leave from Monday 6th February onwards. Pupils should be in class unless they are in an exam.  If pupils have missed break time, they may take 15 minutes before returning to class.

This year’s Youth & Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) Final took place on Wednesday 25th January.  In early November all S3 pupils were allocated groups and tasked with producing a presentation which highlighted the work of a local charitable organisation.  The winning group would receive £3000 towards the charity from the Wood Foundation.  Their hard work culminated in fantastic class finals where the top 6 groups progressed to the grand final.  In front of their entire year group and a panel of independent judges the finalists produced some excellent presentations which really highlighted the work that their chosen charity does for people in the borders.  The judges lead by YPI Scotland Co-ordinator Linda Kirkwood marked the performances against a strict set of scoring criteria and after much deliberation awarded the team of Alex Dickson, Emily Lett and Will Smith from 3K the £3000  to go towards Borders Aspergers and Autism Group Support or BAAGS as  it is better known.  Congratulations must go to all the finalists who really raised awareness of the charities they chose to represent and for all the hard work and preparation they put in.

Maths - Study Resources

In the Mathematics department we've put together a blog post on some useful study resources for our pupils sitting their Prelims and Exams in the coming weeks.  These resources range from video worked examples to blocks of questions and can be found on the link below.
