A copy of the form is attached below.
Please can we ask parents/carers to be mindful of other road users when either dropping off or picking up our young people from the School. Our Seniors played well against George Heriot's on Tuesday in the Scottish Schools Cup but after twice having 'goals' disallowed they ended up losing the closely contested match 2-0.
All Saturday matches against Jedburgh Grammar School were postponed due to frozen pitches and Sunday's games in the East U14 League also fell victim to the winter temperatures. Please note all of our scheduled matches away to Berwickshire High School this weekend have also been postponed.
Our two seniors teams will compete on Saturday, however, in the South Schools Indoor Tournament at Peebles High School (first game at 9.15am) and next Tuesday the S3s are back in action against Strathallan School at Earlston High School in their Scottish Schools Cup competition, 2.30pm start.
U14 East Mixed League - KHS entered two teams in the U14 East Mixed League this year. The games have been played in Edinburgh on a Sunday morning at Forrester High School over four different weekends between September and November, the fifth being cancelled due to the frost. Congratulations to Kelso Cougars who with 7 wins and a draw are winners of Group E and to Kelso Kiwis who finished second equal (only 1 point behind winner) in Group F. Both teams played some brilliant hockey and it was great to see that the hard work and commitment from all of our players each week paid dividend (photos below). Finally a huge thank you to all the parents for transporting players to Edinburgh each week and for their support on the sidelines, it was very much appreciated by the players and their coaches Mary Weir and Susan Lawrence. The second half of the league will start in January 2017 and letters will be sent out with dates once our two teams have been selected.
We have fixtures scheduled against Trinity School next weekend so fingers crossed the weather improves. Thanks again to all coaches and helpers and good luck to all of our players in action in the coming days.
Kelso 16s Football Report
A frosty Sunday morning saw Kelso travel to Duns to take on the League leaders in a game which was on, off, then on again, albeit with a delayed kick-off, doing nothing to help the travelling sides preparations. The pitch was deemed playable by Duns 12th man, referee Keith Wallace and the game got underway. The match was played at 'New Hawthorn' Park, which has been recently refurbished and is a very impressive ground. There was a great turnout of spectators to watch as well which added to the atmosphere.
An entertaining first half saw the teams go in level 0-0 at half-time. There were few chances and the match was keenly contested which made it difficult for either team to break the deadlock. Fortune favoured Duns though as they were awarded a dubious free-kick within shooting range and a good strike, aided by a bobble on the hard pitch gave Duns the lead, scarcely deserved. Filled full of confidence now, Duns really piled on the pressure and despite some heroic defending by Kelso they doubled their lead and took control of the game.
The game then took a crazy twist when Kelso's Number 10, Ryan Mann, made history by becoming the first person in history for being sent off for a trip! Any chance Kelso had of coming back into the game went with this dubious decision and the game finished 2-0 to Duns. Credit to Kelso who played the last 25 minutes with 10 men and never conceded another goal and more than held their own. It seems unfair to pick anyone out as the whole team played well and really bonded on the pitch but I will anyway! Lewis Finlay, Josh Abbott and Owen Cranston put in their performances of the Season so far and the team should be really positive going into the remainder of the season.
At the time of writing Kelso travel to Hawick to play their 16s team this weekend but it is still undecided whether it is Friday night on their brand new 3G pitch or on Sunday at the traditional Wilton Park venue. Full report to follow next week. Report by Rhys Lawrence (S4).
