Events from the week: #prideKHS

  • The Kelso Bee Health Day

Last Saturday, our National 5 Beekeeping students were amongst 40 beekeepers who attended a conference with leading scientists from the Scottish Scientific Agriculture Service and The Scottish Government at KHS.  They were involved in discussions around the most current research about pests and diseases affecting honey bee health.

  • Beach Litter Pick

Our S3 PDA group were on a mission to keep Eyemouth beach free from litter.  Throughout their visit they were able to collect 490 pieces of litter!! With almost 75% being plastic waste.

S6 Leavers Evening

Letters have been emailed out to parents this week with information on the Leavers Evening taking place on Tuesday 4th June. This includes the reply slip which must be returned to the School Office by Tuesday 28th May in order to secure tickets. Spare copies of this are available from the School Office. Tickets for pupils and parents will be available for collection from the School Office also.

S6 Uniform

Can all current S5 pupils staying on for S6, who haven’t already placed their order for S6 jumpers/cardigans, please do so as soon as possible. Forms and payment by cash or cheque need to be handed in to the School Office. Black ties are available now for purchase from the School Office for £7.00.

Timetables

Timetables will be issued for new S6 at the information evening on Thursday 30th May and for new S5 during registration on Monday 3rd June. In the meantime, students can collect a slip from the Office which indicates which subjects they have been allocated and whether reserve choices have had to be used.

KHS Parent Council

The next meeting of the Parent Council is due to be held on Wednesday 29th May at 7pm – all welcome.

New S5 Pupils Interested in a Career in Law?

This is an opportunity for S4 pupils about to go into S5, who are interested in pursuing a career in law. DLA Piper, an international law firm, are expanding their Head Start law programme to pupils in the south east of Scotland. The programme will work with pupils going into S5 and will continue to work with them in S6 and into their university years should they progress on to study law. The programme will include career development insight opportunities and mentoring as well as the chance to network with legal professionals. See below for the promotional poster with information.

To be considered for the programme, DLA Piper are looking for pupils who are predicted to achieve 5 National 5s at grades A-B, AND meet any of the following criteria:

  • Would be the first generation in their family to attend university
  • Are or have been in receipt of Free School Meals whilst at secondary school
  • Have attended schools with a lower than average progression to higher education, or a higher than average proportion of students who qualify for Free School Meals
  • Have parent(s)/guardian(s) who qualify for means-tested benefits
  • Have been looked after or in care
