Weekly Update 24/03/17

Celebration of Sport/SportScotland Award

On Wednesday 22nd March, KHS was formally awarded its SportScotland Gold School Sport Award.  The event was attended by a range of pupils, staff, volunteers and families who are regularly involved in a range of sporting activities.  We were also joined by representatives from clubs in the wider community.

In accepting the award, Mr Brown (PT PE, HE and Sport) paid tribute to everyone involved in sport at the school and in the wider community, noting that without their support school sport simply wouldn't happen.

Neil Innes (Active Schools Co-ordinator) presented on some of the sporting pathways that exist for our pupils and this led nicely into Jenny Adams and Linsey Young (S6) sharing their experiences of playing and coaching sport in their time at KHS.

Andrew Baptie (SportScotland Partnership Manager) also spoke briefly acknowledging the place that Sport has in the fabric of the school and also in the Kelso area.

The prospect of the new school facilities will undoubtedly allow us to continue to grow and develop our Sporting programme at KHS and we always welcome feedback as to how we can do this.  Anyone wishing to share their thoughts or offer to volunteer can contact Mr Brown via the school office.  Photos attached below.

The next meeting is scheduled for Monday 24th April and any bids for funding are to be emailed to the school ([email protected]) by Wednesday 19th April.

The bid should include the following information:

* Full breakdown of costings

* Details of the impact the bid would have on our youngsters

Safety Alert

Local Police Scotland representatives have made us aware of their ongoing concerns over young people climbing on roofs and scaffolding in the Jedburgh and Kelso areas. The first and foremost concern is for the safety of our young folk, but there are also monetary implications of damage caused.

Equestrian Team

What a day for the KHS Equestrian Team!!

Unbelievably after 1 qualifier we have 17 ponies and 12 riders that have qualified for the Championships in October in Buckinghamshire.  A huge well done to Olivia Hogarth at her first time on teams (and qualified!).  Also well done to Louise Hebdon & Rowan Henderson on getting qualifications as they won’t get another chance to do JwS before they leave school!
