S6 Head Team

We are very pleased to announce our 2019-2020 Head Team. Congratulations to Kira McDonnell, Finn McEwan, Jenni Heatlie and Gina Stewart. We wish them well for being a fantastic leadership team this year. Picture below showing Kira, Finn and Jenni (Gina was unfortunately absent at this time).

KHS Summer Concert

Tickets are now available for the Summer Concert being held on Wednesday 26th June at 7.30pm.  Tickets cost £5.00 for Adults and £3.50 for Concessions.  Tickets can be purchased from the School Office or Browns Newsagents. Poster below.

S6 Jumpers

If pupils have not ordered and paid by Monday 24th June then we cannot guarantee they will receive a jumper/cardigan in time for school starting again in August. As they will be aware it is a requirement of the school rules that S6 pupils wear these jumpers/cardigans. If you have any queries please contact the School Office ASAP.

Duke of Edinburgh

Duke of Edinburgh pupils wishing to take part in the upcoming practice expedition on the 27th & 28th of June, there will be a short meeting on Tuesday 25th in Mr Dalziel's room straight after school to arrange the handing out of kit etc. & permission/medical forms. The meeting should last no longer that 30-45 minutes.

The River Tweed - The Pride of Kelso Art Workshops

Over the past few weeks, Justine Miller and Liz Hardy from Allanbank Art have been running afternoon workshops for all S2 pupils. The work produced from these workshops will be used to create an art installation to celebrate The River Tweed. There is a picture below showing some of the flies produced by our pupils and they also name their own flies.

We have more than 50 S2 pupils who say they would like to be part of a KHS fishing club and we are busy working with members of the Kelso Angling community to plan activities after the holidays. It's great that the project has gained such momentum and this has only been possible because of the support of so many people in and outside of KHS.

This coming Saturday, we have a dozen S2 pupils at the Kelso market, along with Allanbank Arts, running a community workshop. If you're around please do come and say hello - you could even try your hand at fly tying.

Parental Involvement and Engagement Questionnaire

We are urging all parents to complete the Parental Involvement and Engagement census compiled by SBC. We are also keen to increase the voice that parents and carers have in leading improvements within their school. Here is the link for more information and the survey:

International Success

Earlier this term Erin Lawrence (S4) and Cameron Thompson (S4) both represented Scotland U16s at Hockey and Rugby respectively.  Reflecting on her experience Erin said; "Playing for Scotland is a great honour.   Being part of the squad has allowed me to travel to Wales and Ireland.  Walking out to the National anthem with my teammates is a proud feeling I will never forget."

Cameron, who travelled to Wales for 3 matches also shared his thoughts; "I can’t put into words how I felt when the email came through telling me I was chosen to play for Scotland and also being chosen to go to Wales to represent my country.  I knew this was the start to a long and hopefully successful journey.  We played the Ospreys in Caerphilly to start off the tour and then went on to play Cardiff Blues in Swansea and to finish off the tour played RGC in Colwyn Bay.  Throughout my whole experience playing for Scotland U16's I met some great friends and made some amazing memories that I will never forget and also developed so much as a player and a person.

KHS is incredibly proud of their achievements this season and hope they continue to build on such fantastic experiences.

Hockey

The Second years had another fantastic trip to Perth on tour with Mrs Weir, Lynne Young and Miss Miller.  This continues to be a highlight for out Junior players and reports confirmed a high degree of dodgy driving at the go-karting.......as usual!!!

This term we have also hosted touring teams from Perth and Dunfermline and as ever the KHS players represented the school in exemplary fashion, showing sportsmanship and a true Kelso welcome to the opposition.

Floorball

Well done to the following KHS learners who have helped the Hawick Floorball club to become British Champions.  This includes; Callum Pollhammer, Jack Matthews, Josh Gibson, Danny James, Dan Swaffield and Jake Dickson.

Floorball is fast paced, indoor hockey variation and runs on Tuesdays after school at KHS.  For more information, contact Lorna Esson.
