Weekly Update 20/10/17

As we are not taking our lockers to the new school, all existing lockers must be cleared out and keys returned to the office by Wednesday 1st November. A £3 refund will be given for all keys returned.  No money will be refunded after the 1st November. If a locker is not emptied by the time we move everything in it will be lost.  Please remind your youngster to empty their locker and return their key by 1st November.

KHS Memories Project

When the High School moves to its new site at Angraflat later this year, the present Kelso High School building will close.  No decision has yet been taken about its future. However there will be a number of events to mark the closure of this iconic and much-loved building.  Please see flyer attached below with all the details.

Drama Update

During the school holiday week 5 pupils from Kelso High School rehearsed and performed the Shakespeare play Taming of the Shrew at the MacArts Centre in Galashiels.  25 members of Borders Youth Theatre from all over the Borders put on a tremendous show over two nights to capacity audiences.  Al Bisset, Lucy Hogarth, Lucie Coupek and Roisin Hogarth played a number of roles throughout the play and Struan Henderson played the modern day misogynist Petrucio charged with taming the shrew. Borders Youth Theatre run weekly workshops at the Abbey Row Centre every Sunday.

Be Part of It

What an amazing response to the school library wishlist on Amazon!  Thanks to the wonderful support of parents, friends and the local community over 50 books have already been donated.  There has been a real buzz in the library this week as more parcels have been delivered and more lovely new books unpacked.  More books have been added so please have a look at the list and help us stock our lovely new library with some lovely new books.  Details of how to access the list are given in the attached 'Be Part of It' poster below.

Wanted - Pennies

The PDA group are collecting enough pennies to go all the way round the school.  Please donate any pennies you have.  There are collection tins in the front hallway and various other places throughout the school.  All the pennies collected will be donated to charity - Cancer Research and Border Pet Rescue.

Kelso 16/17s Football Report

Last Sunday was another disappointing result for Kelso as they were well beaten at home to Lauder.  The windy morning started well for Kelso as some early pressure boosted their confidence.  However, the away side were simply more clinical with their chances as the tricky winger ran through on goal after penetrating the home defence and neatly finished to put Lauder in front.  Things didn’t improve for the home team and more missed opportunities to get level meant Lauder doubled their advantage as a scramble in the box from a corner resulted in the Kelso goalkeeper dropping the ball into his own net - allegedly.  That was how the teams went in at half-time.  Kelso 0-2 Lauder.

The home team just did not get started in the second half and Lauder walked all over a lacklustre defensive display put on by Kelso.  Some good saves from the goalkeeper stopped Lauder from scoring more than their four goals in the second period.  The only consolation for Kelso was substitute Thomas Robson scoring a late goal with a tidy finish after a sublime reverse pass from Mark Scott.  This makes Thomas the joint top scorer this season!!  Final score Kelso 1-6 Lauder.  That’s four defeats on the trot for Kelso and things don’t get any easier as this Sunday when they play host to currently undefeated and defending Champions Duns at Woodside Park.  Kick-off is 10.30 a.m. and all supporters are welcome.Report by Rhys Lawrence (S5)
