Parents of S5 Pupils - S6 Uniform

S6 pupils are allowed to wear a jumper of a colour of their choice.  Voting for this choice of colour has now taken place.  Order forms were handed out to S5 pupils for their S6 Jumper. The order forms should have been returned to the office with the money, if you have not yet returned this please do so ASAP.

It is a requirement of the school rules that S6 pupils wear these jumpers.  As the jumpers are made to order it is not possible to change sizes later or order additional stock later.  Sample sizes will be available at the office for pupils to try on at breaktime and lunchtime.  Please ensure that your child tries on the samples and therefore orders the correct size and also ensure that they order the correct number.

Sainsburys Active Kids Vouchers

KHS are collecting Active Kids vouchers again this year, with the intention to use these for both cooking and sports equipment.  If you would like to donate any vouchers, please hand them in to either the HE or PE staff bases or the main Office.  Thank you for your support.

IFDPA Dance Competition

KHS pupils Robyn Harvey, Lucy Angus, Fiona Lesenger and Jake Wright in S4 were away from Friday 10th to Monday 13th March to attend the IFDPA Dance competition at Disneyland Paris.  This is an international competition attended by many schools from all over the world. Robyn, Lucy, Fiona and Jake were joined by another 20 dancers from M-Pulsive dance school in Kelso.

All the dancers performed multiple routines in various categories.  Robyn and Lucy as well as Fiona and Jake competed in duos which they choreographed and put together themselves. Robyn Lucy, Fiona, Jake joined by a Jedburgh High School pupil also took part in a Lyrical group routine to Beyonce’s Halo.  The competition ended with an M-Pulsive showcase routine featuring a World Ceilidh to Highland Cathedral and ‘500’ by the Proclaimers, which moved the audience to tears.

The highlight of the day, however, was the awards ceremony where the senior dancers, including Robyn, Lucy, Fiona and Jake won second place in the Hip-Hop/Street category.  (pictures below) To dance at Disney, let alone win an award, was a great achievement, a fantastic opportunity and the experience of a lifetime.  Well done!!

Kelso High School Curling Team

Have just returned from Braehead in Glasgow where the Scottish Schools Curling Championships took place over the weekend.  The KHS team had a brilliant weekend and after winning 4 out of 5 of their group games progressed to the knockout stage.  In the quarter finals they played St George’s School from Edinburgh and won 9,7.  In the semi final they came up against Lockerbie Academy and after a very close game, where the lead changed hands several times, unfortunately this was as far as we were going to this year.  They all played very well throughout the competition and were one/if not one of the youngest teams in the competition.  Each youngster conducted themselves very well and were a credit to both themselves and the school.  Team photo attached below:

Kelso 15s/16s Football Report

Last Sunday, Woodside Park was the venue for the League Cup fixture of Kelso vs Hawick 16s.  Kelso were trying a new system following the humiliation of the previous week.  The game started well for the home side as Lewis Finlay headed home 15 minutes in after a brilliant Mikey Kavannagh cross.  However, things didn’t stay that way for long as Hawick scored three quick goals which tested Kelso’s character.  The home team then started building some pressure on the Hawick back line and that paid off when versatile captain Ryan Fletcher scored one of the finest goals this season.  His left foot, curled effort flew past the goalkeeper and nestled right in the top corner.  Half-time score Kelso 2-3 Hawick.

The second half was going to be a tough one for Kelso as they turned into the wind and the first of the Spring sunshine, but the game went quiet for about 20 minutes with a few half-chances for both sides.  Eventually Hawick put away a fourth goal that extended their lead. That turned out to be the last goal of the game as it finished Kelso 4-2 Hawick.  This was a good performance from the team that was annihilated 10-0 last week as they only lost 4-2 to equally good opposition.  Kelso are away for the first time in 5 games next week as they travel to play a struggling Selkirk team in what should be a winnable game.  Report by Rhys Lawrence (S4)
