Weekly Update 17/02/17

S3 and S4 Course Choice Process Begins..

All our S3 students will be off timetable for two periods in the morning of Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st to allow them to attend a variety of workshops.  Each Faculty/department will talk about the courses that are on offer within the Senior Phase and possible progression pathways from S3 into S4 then onto S5 and S6.

To allow full discussion with home we would also like to invite you, as an S3 and/or S4 parent along with you son/daughter to attend an event within KHS on Tuesday 28th from 5pm until 6.30pm.  During the evening there will be opportunities to find out information about the various courses on offer and to hear a variety of presentations.

Sportscotland Gold for KHS

KHS recently received Gold status from SportScotland as part of their ongoing School Sport Awards programme.  More information is attached below.

S2 Parents Evening 22/02/17

Pupils were given an invitation letter to the Parents Evening being held on Wednesday 22nd February last week.  If you have not already done so, please complete the reply slip and when handed into the School Office pupils will be issued with their appointment card.  They are then able to go round their teachers and obtain the necessary appointments.

Pupil Information Update

If you are moving home, have a new telephone or mobile number can you please make sure that you contact the School Office so that we can update your youngsters records. 

National 5 and Higher Social Subjects

Pupils sitting National 5 and Higher Social Subjects (History, Geography, Modern Studies and Politics) will be sitting their Assignment during March.  The calendar is attached below. 

In National 5 pupils will get an hour to write up their assignment under exam conditions and it is worth 25% of their total exam mark.

In Higher pupils it is worth a third of their total mark and they get an hour and half to write it up, also under exam conditions.

Both involve lengthy preparation which has been started in class but pupils will need to work at home in order to collect research and prepare for their write up.  Your help would be appreciated in supporting your youngster with this.  Please contact Ms James if you have any queries / issues.

Edinburgh Napier Uni - Men into Nursing & Midwifery Event - Saturday 25/02/17

Cheviot Youth

The Borders U18 Floodlit 5-A-Side League & Cup on Friday 10th, 17th & 24th March from 6.00 pm – 8.00 pm at Kelso High School. This under 18 tournament is open to schools, football clubs, youth groups and teams of friends.  Cup, medals & cash prizes for the winners. Sainsburys Active Kids Vouchers

KHS will be collecting Active Kids vouchers again this year, with the intention to use these for both cooking and sports equipment.  If you would like to donate any vouchers, please hand them in to either the HE or PE staff bases or the main Office.  Thank you for your support.

Sick Bay

Please can you remind your youngster that if they feel unwell during school time they should report to sick bay. They should not call you to arrange to go home or go home without telling someone in the school.  In sickbay your youngster will be assessed by a first aider who will call home if necessary.

Swimming Update

Apologies, the following information was omitted from last weeks update.

This weekend was the final weekend of 3 at the Scottish East District Age Group Championships at the Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh.  Club swimmers from all over the Borders, Fife and Lothians competed for the top 3 spots in their individual distance & stroke followed by the chance to enter Club teams for Relays.  This weekend was the Sprint events 50m & 100m's in all strokes plus 200m (I/M) Individual Medley.

Jenny Adams S6 (17&over) - Competing in 6 events against some of the top Scottish senior swimmers, recording 4 Personal Best times (200IM, 50 & 100m Breastroke and 100m freestyle).  Well done!!
