Weekly Update 16/12/16

Christmas Events, so far..

Christmas Cake Display: Congratulations and well done to all the S3 Home Economics students who displayed their fantastic Christmas Cakes on Wednesday.  Family and friends, along with staff and fellow pupils were very impressed with the high standard.  Many thanks to Mrs Murray and Mrs Davies.

Christmas Music Concert: Throughout the session our Music staff and instructors work with our young people and the Concert was an opportunity to showcase their talents.  Again the standard was extremely high and it was lovely to see so many S1 students involved.  Well done and thank you to all involved.

Kelso 15s/16s Football Report

This week Kelso travelled to the new Hawick 3G pitch for the second time in three weeks to take on the Hawick 15s team, not the 16s team.  Kelso dominated the first 30 minutes, the home side rarely got out of their own half during that period.  The pressure soon paid off as Lewis Finlay headed in from a Jake Douglas corner to give the visitors the lead.  Then it happened.  The home side sent shockwaves through the Scottish Borders by scoring 3 goals in 5 minutes.  Two from random counter attacks and one from a really badly defended corner.  Half-time Hawick 15s 3 Kelso 1.  Kelso started the second half all guns blazing and 20 minutes later Owen Cranston poked home to give the visitors some hope that all was not lost.  These hopes were quickly quashed as Kelso went on to miss 2 penalties in 5 minutes.  A few minutes later, Hawick broke down the field and scored with a rare venture into the Kelso half.  That summed up the whole game to be honest.  Final score Hawick 15s 4 Kelso 2.

Disappointingly that is the last game before the 3 month winter break that is now upon us. The fixtures will resume at the end of February 2017 when remaining League games will be played before the Cameron Gunn Cup starts.  Report by Rhys Lawrence (S4)

Hockey Update

The Kelso HS S3/S2 Cup side went down fighting in the national cup on Thursday, eventually losing out 2-1 to Strathallan School.  Strong tackling, running for every ball, tracking back, defending, clearing away and setting up was all immense.  Strathallan got the first goal, but Ellen Burgher equalised much to the delight of the vocal band of spectators!  Despite many fantastic saves by outstanding goalie Lucie Coupek, Strathallan came back and nicked another goal late on to claim victory.

Thanks to Earlston High School for allowing us to use their facilities, to EHS teacher Emma Pate for umpiring, all of our parents taxi/supporters for a great effort and to coaches Lynn Young and Mrs Weir for their outstanding work with the girls, and we wish Strathallan all the best for the next round.  Keep the heads up girls - you have represented our school superbly and will be stronger for the experience.  Please see photos below.
