Weekly Update 16/11/18

Fire Alarms at Kelso High School

In recent weeks the fire alarm has been triggered several times during the school day and the building has been evacuated; we appreciate that this is a concerns for the school community. Unfortunately yesterday we had another alarm which was triggered by a Chemical experiment in a lab. Since August 2018, in total we have had 7 alarms 4 of which have been fully accounted for: A system fault, a fire incident, an alarm triggered by cooking in Home Economics and today’s alarm. 3 incidents have been caused by someone deliberately activating the fire call point.

After each incident a full investigation is carried out.  The school continues to work closely with Police Scotland, Fire & Rescue Service and Local Authority to ensure that any disruption to Teaching & Learning is kept to a minimum.  Whenever a young person has been identified as having deliberately activated the fire alarm point then appropriate consequences have been put in place.

We appreciate that the current situation is causing concern and thank you for your support at this time.
