Battlefields Experience 2019

Last week the majority of our S3 pupils took part in a visit to the WW1 Battlefields in Belgium and France. It was a busy and exhausting time but one that was truly memorable and made us consider carefully what our values are. Throughout the trip we were talking with members of the public who congratulated us on the conduct of our young people.

Upon our return this week, I was delighted to receive the following two messages and wanted to take this opportunity to share them with parents/carers:

  • A member of the public that was in the restaurant in Ypres where our group were eating before visiting the Menin Gate took the time to contact the school to say what a credit the pupils were to both the school and their parents/carers.

I then received the following email:

  • My name is Jim and last week I had the pleasure of driving staff and pupils around the WW1 cemetery’s and memorials In Belgium and Northern France. I would just like to say how polite and friendly they all were towards me, but more importantly how thoughtful and respectful they were at the numerous sites we visited, especially at their own private ceremony at the Polygon Wood cemetery. It was very moving and emotional, and I felt privileged to be part of it, all be it just watching from the sidelines.

Please could you pass on my thanks for their company and also my thanks and appreciation for their parting gifts.

Well done to all of our pupils, what a fantastic demonstration of PRIDE!!!

S2 Pupils - River Tweed / The Pride of Kelso Fly Tying Workshops

As of Monday 10th June Justine Miller and Liz Hardy from Allanbank Art will be running creative fly tying workshops for all our youngsters in S2.  These works of art will then be used to create an art installation to celebrate The River Tweed in Kelso.  We will have plenty of materials and there is no need to buy anything but if your youngster would like to bring in feathers, buttons, fabrics etc from home that they would like to include the artists thought it could be a nice touch.  Our S2 Registration Teachers have all the details about dates / times for the workshops.
