KHS Memories Project

When the High School moves to its new site at Angraflat later this year, the present Kelso High School building will close.  No decision has yet been taken about its future.  However there will be a number of events to mark the closure of this iconic and much-loved building.  Please see flyer attached below with all the details.

Be Part of It

We are nearly there; the excitement is building! In just over one month’s time we will be moving to the new school. This is a key moment in the history of Kelso High School and we would like to give you the opportunity to ‘be part of it’.  Please see flyer attached below.

In order to do justice to our amazing new school library, we are inviting you to choose a book from our Amazon wish list, which will then be added to stock, complete with a bookplate with your name on it.

The librarian, Mrs Woolfson, has identified some areas of stock that could be improved and the requested titles will greatly add to the reading experience of our students, both reading for pleasure and reading for information.

If you would like to contribute, the list can be accessed as follows: -

  1. Go to www.amazon.co.uk
  2. Click on ‘Your Lists’
  3. Select ‘Find a list’ from the drop-down menu
  4. Type Kelso High School Library into the large search box (note: the spaces and capital K,H,S and L)
  5. Browse the titles, select the one you wish to gift, pay as usual and the book will automatically be sent to the school
  6. Bookplates in each book will show the name of the donor

Thank you for your support.

Police Scotland Youth Volunteers (PSYV) is coming to the Scottish Borders

PSYV is the fastest growing youth organisation is Scotland.  We are looking for enthusiastic young people aged between 13-17yrs in the Borders to join the new Scottish Borders Group.

The group is starting at 7pm on Monday 6th November 2017 at the Interchange in Galashiels.   There is a 12 week training period where the group will meet every Monday between 7-9pm to learn basic police duties, radio procedure, notebook keeping and other essential skills prior to being deployed at events in the community.

The group is designed to break down barriers between the police and young people and to give them a voice in the community.  They will meet new people, gain new skills and have the opportunity to volunteer and get behind the scenes at many large events all over Scotland.  PSYV Volunteers have recently been deployed at the Edinburgh Tattoo, Queensferry Crossing opening ceremony, Edinburgh and Glasgow Marathons and numerous others.  They will also have the opportunity to get involved in local policing initiatives gaining a valuable insight into the running of Police Scotland.  This is a great opportunity for anyone who is considering a career in the police or just looking for a new challenge.

A poster and application form is attached below.  The poster has already been posted on the Scottish Borders Police Facebook page which can be accessed using the following link:

Kelso 16/17s Football Report

Last week, the Kelso team travelled to play Lauder with some contrasting momentum coming in to the game.  Lauder were coming off a big win over Hawick last week, while Kelso were still recovering from a heavy defeat at the hands of Duns.  Lauder scored after a minute on this cold, damp Sunday as their striker ran through on goal and finished neatly to put the home side in front.  However, Kelso were totally dominant for the next 25 minutes and missed several great chances to level the score line.  Unfortunately, it was Lauder who got the next goal after the striker again finished neatly after a mix-up in the Kelso defence. Half- time score Lauder 2-0 Kelso.  Neither of the two teams started the second half very well but there were decent attacks at both ends which eventually led to a third goal for the hosts.  A good strike from the edge of the box was enough to beat the away goalkeeper and extend Lauder’s lead.  Kelso then fell apart as Lauder scored two more goals to make a score line which really did not truly reflect the game.  Final score Lauder 5-0 Kelso.

No game next week for Kelso which isn’t great as they need to brush off this third defeat in a row.  However, they have a chance to avenge this defeat by Lauder when they play them at home on Sunday 15th October.  Kick-off is 10.30am at Woodside Park and all supporters are welcome.  Report by Rhys Lawrence (S5)
