Rotary Young Chef 2015/2016
The department try to run the Rotary Young Chef competition on a yearly basis. This competition is advertised to learners between S3 and S6. This year 16 of our learners took part. The task was to produce a healthy main course and dessert. This year we were very lucky to have Albert Roux OBE and local chef Jessica Osbourne judging the competition.
The overall winner was Karrie Petty, who prepared, cooked and served Mr Roux a dish of grilled mackerel with soy ginger and lime served with buttered cabbage and glazed sweet potato, followed by a dessert of an almond pastry autumn raspberry tart. Second place went to Katie Fairgrieve.
The Borders Final will take place at Kelso High School On Wednesday 16th December 2015. Karrie and Katie will cook alongside 8 other pupils from other schools in the region.
Mr Roux said ‘I was overwhelmed by the standard of cooking by our young cooks, who have shown they have the raw talent and determination to become chefs of the future’.
