By delving into the past Historians are endowed with the skills to uncover our present and future, making History the ideal subject for the Twenty-first Century student. Through the exploration of History we aim to empower our students, giving them a unique understanding of the world in which they live. In doing so the History Department will enable its learners to achieve a whole host of skills which can be found at the very heart of our Curriculum for Excellence, namely:
Developing an understanding of the history, heritage and culture of Scotland, and an appreciation of local and national heritage within the world.
Broadening students understanding of the world by learning about human activities and achievements in the past and present.
Developing an understanding of various values, beliefs and cultures.
Exploring and evaluating different types of sources and evidence
Learning how to locate, explore and link periods, people and events in time and place.
Engaging in activities which encourage enterprising attitudes
Developing an understanding of concepts that stimulate enterprise and influence business.
Establishing firm foundations for lifelong learning and for further specialised study and careers.
